Registration is FREE. Yeah man, I mean cummon, how many competitions have you heard of that have no registration fee right?

My boring weekend

Well to put it bluntly I didn't do much this weekend, quite simply because I was saving my money which I used too much of last week =P So I didn't really go out at all! I basically stayed at home and organized my stuffs, shred quite a whole lot of papers too lmao.

I spent my time searching for nice songs too! I'm looking for inspiration hehe, den I stumbled upon my friend's blog which had this really nice song of rain's sad tango =O really inspiring. I am so dope over violin songs haha.

Oh well short post for me this time =O Will post more next time, I'm gonna customize some of my clothes in the coming days hehe so stay tuned =X

OTB PDB Cohesion!

Wuuu, this is a special post lol =X Since I usually don't blog in the middle of the week =X

I went to see my wife is a gangster 3 today! (Courtesy of someone) =D

The beginning of the movie was like full of Chinese dialect... hokkien I think? =O It made me a little unsure of the movie as I thought it could be one more of those ordinary gangster shows. But I thought, "since this movie is already part 3, it has to be very successful right?" Oh ya, lets not forget that Shu Qi, the Hong Kong Actress (a hottie) is the lead actress in the movie. After a few minutes, the show made its first punchline and from there I was like laughing all the way. It was really funny and really serious at the same time with a mixed-sad ending. I loved it so much! The main actress and actor fall in love with each other although they don't know a common language. (One speaks chinese and the other korean). In the story Shu Qi moves to South Korea to lay low from all the Hong Kong Gang Wars, and also to find her Korean Mother. Go watch this movie! Its super funny and the love story is really good =)

After the movie I went to Minds Cafe! (Located at 60A Princep Street)

As I have not been to the cafe before, the only impression that I had of the cafe was from online. From the stuff I saw online I thought this place would not be cheap. Again I was wrong, when I arrived, all that was needed was a nere $5 fee, then we would have 2 hrs of boardgames with FREE FLOW drinks =D And there are 4 drinks to choose from too. This was their special offer during their Happy Hours.

For those of you who do not know what Minds Cafe is, it is actually like "Settlers Cafe" Where you can actually go and play board games there. I must say Minds had a really obscene quantity of board games. Not to mention some really really nice chess sets =). The staff provided very good service too. Whenever we played the games wrongly, there were always there to teach us and not to mention help us refill our drinks. There was almost no need for us to go and ask for service =D I'm so going back there again. Lets not forget that they also have a 10% discount for all NUS students. Board Games anyone? =)

Shoelacing site

Rawrrrr! Visit http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/index.htm to find out how to do your own =X This site was introduced to me by my JC friend Wei Xin =P Credits credits to him haha

Supper with F4-1!

Met up with my old sec school classmates at east coast this friday =) Didn't see them in awhile haha. Shao Quan just got his new license so he drove to east coast. He says mabye he wants to make the friday supper thing a regular gathering for F4-1. It seems quite good, the turnout was very good considering that we were only informed on wednesday haha. Any takers?

We went to the Hong Kong Cafe at East Coast Marine Cove. I was really shocked! It was just a short time ago that I visited east coast, but I have never visited it late late at night before. Its so different at night and many more shops are open =) In case you're wondering, this is C-Nai Hong Kong cafe, which is the orginal Hong Kong Cafe at Singapore. Visit their site at http://www.hkcafe.com.sg/ they even have a television commercial about their restaurant and everything! =O Cool right? Anyway I ate the stewed beef noodles, it was really nice but the quantity was little =(. I think I made the wrong order? I love C-Nai Hong Kong Cafe actually, my favorite one is still the East Cost ROAD outlet (not the one at East Coast PARK). I don't know, lol mabye its just abit prejudice? Haha, its pretty nice so go try it out. Like all other Hong Kong Cafes, the price is very affordable for the quantity you get.

While we are on the subject of Hong Kong Cafes in Singapore, let me just talk about Hong Kong Kim Gary's Cafe, at Vivo City! I just want to say that it has the best yin yang drink there. =D *stomach rumbles*

After supper we all talked till about 1am where we made our way back home =O On the way back Shinuan was driving Shaoquan's car and she was driving very slowly to practice her new skills hehe, pretty leet! Hope to see more F4-1 people again soon!

Reunion with Philjin!

Wheeee! Met Philjin today after so so so long! We were supposed to meet up with MengShu also but she had to go out with her mom suddenly so... it was only phil and me. We didn't do much except hang out, watch anime and then went to eat Korean Stone hot BBQ!

The price was really cheap, about 16 bucks per pax with alot of food. The downside is that most of the food is not seasoned so you have to season it yourself. Also there are no drinks provided except water x.x Oh well, its kinda better than marina in a way because its indoor and air conditioned (except that its not very cold and quite warm sometimes) If you do go there, make sure you sit all the way in beside the food because thats the coldest point =)

Wuuu I think my stomach is feeling much better now =D shall go off and do some exercise soon hehe. Guess who I met up with over the weekend! Luo Yin! Yea, she's back from London =) So I met up with her, wanjin, shumin and luo yin's bro Su Da over the weekend. This time we were really hungry for some really nice seafood, so we went to...

Wuuu yes! No Signboard Seafood at the Esplanade! Thats another crazy thing which we haven't done before =X "Go eat in a ridiculously expensive restaurant for good food" Let me recall what we ordered...

1. White Pepper Crab!
Omg this was freaking dope. I only heard of black pepper crab, until saturday, where LuoYin told me this was their specialty dish.

2. Deep Fried Fish with Cerals
The Fish was really nice with very few bones =X And the cerals sprinkled on top of it! Really addictive! =X

3. Fried Rice and Fried Quay Teow
We ordered the smallest portion of fried rice and Fried Quay Teow, which only cost like 8 bucks each. Believe me it was freakisly big. It was so much that it was enough for all the 6 of us. I would seriously come back again just to eat the fried quay teow x.x it was so owning that I never tasted anything like that at any hawker centre.

4. Stewed Sea Cucumber in Claypot & Mixed Vegetables
wooo, the only thing I can say about these 2 is that the sauce which they did the vegetables and the sea cucumber was really leet. The consistency was that and it had a really rich taste XD

After we finished, we basically walked around the esplanade area pretending to be tourists and doing really weird stuff =X I shall blog more about it again when the pictures are up ^^. In the meantime now, I'm gonna go off the prepare my bboy chart lols

The fireball weekend

More Shoes!

Lol, its seems quite a number of people read my shoe post =P thanks for your support hehe. I have this streak coming on, like wanting to make my own t-shirts and shoes. However unfortunately I don't have the time or revenue now to do that. (more of no money than time lol *cracks my head*)

Fireball Weekend!

I met JY and Joey for the weekend! =D We went to Jurong Entertainment Centre for ice skating! I woke up early to train as usual, when JY gave me a scare because she said that she might not be able to make it for the outing x.x. However, so luckily they were able to make it! I haven't went ice skating for so long so I was pretty excited ^^.

When we finally arrived there, the both of them took a look at the rink and they were pretty scared about getting into the rink to ice skate. Joey hasn't ice skated since she was P6 and JY when she was sec 4. I do inline blades so it doesn't count =X. The main scare factor of the rink was that it was SOOO wet! (apparently the rink wasn't cold enough and nobody could be bothered to mop up the water, gah).

There were lots of pros around =X so it was slow skating for us. The weird part was that JY slipped and fell and got all wet but we didn't hear a thing! =O How can you keep quiet about it JY!

After ice skating, we went to the science centre (yeah, thats right, wtf right?) We wanted to go inside and play with the exhibits, however it was already nearing closing time, so we decided to go and play at the tech park outside instead.

There were so many interesting exhibits! Our most favorite one of all was the FIREBALL. Joey snapped a video of me and JY playing on the FIREBALL. However I don't have it with me yet =X shall post it here when I get it heh.

After that, we went to eat dinner at KFC! Its been a really long time since I ate at KFC. Honestly the only time which i remember eating there was last year when I went out with WF and we went to watch movie =O. The 3 of us decided to try the Miso chicken, which was REALLY addictive. Serious. I've not been a fan of KFC but I really liked this. It had a really addictive salty but sweet taste x.x gimmie more please!

The last part of the day we wanted to finish it off with watching fireworks at the esplanade. As the NDP rehearsal was happening on Saturday as well. We had this tip off from Eddie that at 8pm they were going to shoot the fireworks. So we went near the esplanade and we saw tonnes of people waiting there to see the fireworks~!

We waited and waited... till finally it was 8pm...

And then!! BOOM!

YAY! FIREWORKS!

But guess what? Only one measly high level shell was fired. Yes folks, we've all been waiting for just 1 firework which was launched into the sky.

@$%$#%@!!

Oh well, it was free anyway =O

I'm Back!

Hey all! I'm back! Sorry for not blogging the past 2 weeks... I just wanted to be sure of... something. But thats all cleared out now =P sooo anyway...

Look what I found in the papers today!

Yeah! Its another hip hop compeition! I dont think I'll be participating thou, unless the entry fee is like free or something (which is highly unlikely). Firstly, I dun think I am good enough yet and secondly I dont really have a partner at the moment lols.

Met up with obasan and pea yesterday! I played para para with obasan =X she beat me flat thou lols. I wanted to see how far my footwork has gone since I first started bboying, so I decided to play the entire game with just using my feet (do toprock only) I could manage at first x.x but some of the moves I really totally couldn't do at all lols. More pratice man!

Anyway, I've been having a kind of shoe fetish at the moment =X I had alot of free time today so I decided to do a little shoe review and how it affects dancing =P (Note: I didn't actually use the EXACT shoe as shown in the picture. I have my own shoe)

-------------------------------------
First up is...

Typical Track Shoes!

Summary (Upon 5 Scale)
Toprock: **** - The standing part of breakdance
Floorwork: ** - The floor part of breakdance
Drops (Stability): *** - The part where you transit from standing to floor
Weight: ****

The good:
I picked new balance shoes because I feel in my opinion that they have more cushioning and are lighter than many other track shoes. Basically I liked the feeling I got when I was doing toprocks with this shoe. Its very stable and doesnt have too much grip, so it allows me to change directions very quickly and spin alot which is a really great plus. I literlly got addicted to toprocking when I used this!

The bad:
The grip on the pair I tried (its a new pair btw) SUCKED. It was so bad it was very difficult to do cwalk in it. Adding to the fact that it is very chunky at the heel, as most track shoes are, it was very very difficult to shuffle. (Shuffle abit and your heel would have touched the floor).

Most track shoes have tapered heels, meaning the heels doesnt have an edge and are rounded. This is a very big minus when I was doing floorwork. The tapered heel didnt give me enough grip to change directions when I was on the floor. I could only change directions by using the side of the shoe instead. More personal preference really

Another thing which sucked was the weight. It is still quite heavy, so when I did handstands, I could feel as if there was something stuck to my leg. Not that it really affected much, it just got me a little bothered. Would probably wear out when I wear it longer.
------------------------------------

Next Up....

Ultra Lightweight Sneakers

Summary (Upon 5 Scale)
Toprock: **
Floorwork: ****
Drops (Stability): ***
Weight: *

The good:
Ultra lightweight! Thats obvious. The most common form of ultra lightweight sneakers are of course nike dunks (not the new airforce one series). Besides the sole, everything else is just a piece of leather. Thin and allows your leg much air which makes it quite comfortable.

Because its so lightweight, when you're doing handstands or anything, you will feel like theres nothing on your leg. So for all those of you who like praticing barefoot, this shoe is gonna be heaven.

Most sneakers also have a really sharp edge of the heel. Which is a great plus for doing floorwork. You can just jam the heel into the ground and move quite easily.

The bad:
To make the shoe light, your shoe manufactuer would probably have removed almost every inch of coushioning on the shoe. Which would make it really painful if you were to do Ci-cis or come down really hard on your foot.

Due to the lack of coushioning on the shoe sole, doing toprocks is not a very enjoyable experience too. (But still ok).

The worst part? Too much freaking friction. This is a problem with most sneakers anyway. The friction is quite bad which will make it quite difficult to spin during toprocks.
------------------------------------

Lastly...

Normal Sneakers!

Summary (Upon 5 Scale)
Toprock: ***
Floorwork: ****
Drops (Stability): ***
Weight: ***

The good:
This kind of sneaker is sort of an in-between of the track shoe and the ultra light sneaker. It has quite an ample amount of padding. I used the adidas superstar for this one. Doing toprocks is not as bad as before because of the padding. However you wont beat the track shoe in this one. Most sneakers have a 'dead sole' which means there is nothing in it to buffer the impact when your leg contacts the floor.

Floorwork is much nicer now because of the edged heel and the increased coushioning. Now you dont have to care where you smash your foot on the floor because the choushioning will take the punishment. An added plus of the adidas superstar? The toe portion is made of hard rubber. Extra protection when you're doing Ci-cis or other 6 step shit.

The bad:
Alot of friction! As mentioned before its very annoying. Personally I would wear a sneaker a few times first before attempting to dance in them to just kill some of the friction first.

Due to the amount of padding, its quite hot in there, which can become quite annoying if you wear thick socks.

There is nothing in the sole to coushion your impact. So if you come down hard? Its gonna hurt.
--------------------

Well thats it! =P hope you liked my review lols

Back!

Hey all, By now you should have noticed, my blog was down... I guess my weakness days are on Thurs and Fris.. I got to work out how to get more rest thou.. its seems almost impossible haha. With training ending so late and all. Mabye I should go take up meditation classes or something. I heard from a meditation book in the past that 1 hour meditation equals to 2 hrs of sleep =P. But I guess I'll end up loosing more sleep trying that in the long run lols

Anyway, something scary happened just now.. my thumbnail totally cracked when it knocked lightly against a cupboard. I was kinda shocked, it wasn't even a crack, more like a tearing? It was then that I realized that all my nails were totally transparent! Yes even the white part which comes out... thats scary man, this has never happened before.. I think I may be suffering from some kind of malnutrition... I should probably go see a doctor or something...

Training today was relatively okay, I won't call it good, I guess my performance is decreasing due to the fact that I'm getting freakishly tired right about this time of the week.

Handstand Spins and Handstand Switches
I did quite ok, if not better for my handstand switches, however in terms of my handstand spins I deproved greatly today... I could still spin fast but I couldn't really spin many times... which is a real drag. Have came up with some tips to help myself:
1. During rotation fully rotate the right shoulder all the way to spin 1/2 round. Do not just let it rest, if not a very short turn will be achieved.
2. Try to lift legs above and slightly past the head to get into a kind of invert position.

Hollowbacks
I didn't do a single hollowback, on another note I am getting less afraid of falling on my back haha. To my surprise it really doesn't hurt at all. I guess I gotta learn how to lower my legs slowly to do the hollowback... Train harder!

Handhops
Gosh I really can't figure out the 1 handed handhop. I am doing real fine with my 2 handed ones thou. For 1 handed... its really difficult. I guess I can't hold a 1 handed handstand for that long either.. Grind more!

BabyFreeze to elbow freeze
I did really bad for this today. I think its because I am very tired out doing the baby freeze walk just before this.. Just some tips for myself to remember:
1. Push with the elbow, not just lay it down
2. Place the elbow nearest to the head as possible

Babyfreeze Walk
Boy have I been messing this one up lately... my feet always touch the floor when I move from 1 position to the next. I think its because they are too near the ground due to the fact that my head is in a raised position. I shall do them with my head slightly tucked down to prevent them from touching the floor.

Love stories!

Gosh... really tired today x.x I came home relatively late haha, but oh well at least I got what I wanted... I still have yet to get sheena's birthday card! Urgh.. I guess if I go out on Friday with weifen or on Thurs with the gang I'll go buy it on the way =(.

I didn't get to arrange much of my room today... but I did identify quite a few things which I no longer want. Lots of them are mostly my A level stuffs, I think I'm going to pawn them away this weekend at those shops along bras pasar. I heard they like to take such books in... as for the rest of them I have no idea what to do with them =\ I feel that throwing them away is a real waste thou.

I'm recently addicted to love stories! =( I want to see more... its just so rare to watch a nice love series these days... Hai.

Anyways, today was good! Except that I took quite long doing my handstand practices x.x which resulted in me going into way overtime with the other moves.

I tried the 1 handed hand hops today! I succeeded doing 1 hop lol. I need to learn to use my legs more rather than just use my hand to pump my body up cos it aint gonna work.

My windmills are kind of stuck now... Can do the drop down like yesterday but it lacks a certain kind of power to actually get it going and allow me go get back up after turning 1 round.

As for my chair spins, they're doing quite good! The bending thing really works. I think I'm going to try learning hopping in that position so that I can spin longer =)

Rebuilding myself

Alright... today I think is the first time where I really did the entire new program which I have put out for myself.. let me review..

1. Handhops
Yeah! I tried 2 handed handhops for the first time today... quite easy I must say, I managed to do about 4-5, but of course doing them 1 handed is a different thing... I have trouble maintaining my balance in a strict 1 handed handstand now, but I think learning the handhop will help me through, its gonna be painful but I must endure it... I shall do some 2 handed handhops tomorrow then switch with 1 handed ones.

2. Hollowback
I didn't do much of this today, in fact I just did 2. It was more like to overcome my fear of falling from a hollowback. To my surprise it was totally harmless! Even less scary than falling from a handstand =X Time to train more hollowbacks!

3. Handstand Spins
Like what I planned, I used my legs more this time. My spins were really really faster, but also hard to control. I can safely finish 1 round with just lifting my hand off 4 times. Meaning I traveled 1/4 round with each spin. Hopefully I'll be able to make each spin 1/3, then 1/2 and finally 1 round. I am not using my left leg to spin yet though, most of the action seems to come from my right leg. I think if I plan to spin faster I will have to use my left leg eventually. But for now I will build my control first. No sense going so fast but having no control.

4. Handstand Switches
I started using my hands for these too! Became quite easy, but since I am only able to spin anti clockwise, one of the spins were always faster than the other. Also too bad that my spins were not 'clean'. (I had to lift both of my hands during turns) My ideal form is to move my body in the 1/2 spin with just lifting one hand. Long way to go!

5. Baby Freeze to Headstand, Forearm Freeze
Starting to get the hang of these more and more. Since I'm not working out in my room anymore, my left hand is no longer blocked by my bed and I can move my left hand out fully to support my body! Yay!

6. Airchair Spins
I discovered yet another thing in airchair spins today. Usually when I am spinning my body from the baby freeze position to generate momentum, I will always scissor my right leg towards my body to try and get myself into the airchair position. ITS TOTALLY WRONG. Doing so actually cuts my momentum alot since my legs are the prime momentum generators and the scissor motion actually slows me down. Today I discovered if I bend my body towards my knee I'll move much faster! No need to scissor anymore =)

7.Windmills
I followed the tutorial and kicked my right leg towards my head. It works! I can do the drop down really easily now. The hard part now is to generate enough momentum to actually raise my body up again to the babyfreeze position. I think I'll have to kick harder and use my left supporting hand to generate more momentum.

The bad thing about today? I DIDN'T TRAIN MUCH OF MY FOOTWORK AT ALL! I did some footwork practice but it was really little and mostly confined to the beginning stages of the practice session. I need to bum up more on this portion.

Sian

Hai, dragged myself to practice today, but I was totally out of it because I was totally quarreling with my mom, dont want to talk about that but anyway here's the inputs I have for today...

About practice in general:
1. I think I'll start practicing with my shoes from now on, seriously the feeling is very different from barefoot (and also because my feet suffer from alot of cuts recently).

2. I cannot practice in my room any longer because the space is far far too small, so I'll be doing everything in the main hall from now on. (although the space is kinda small to begin with)

Moves:
1. Handhops
My ultimate goal is to do 1 handed handhops... I tried doing 1 handed ones but I didn't have much success. I thought that I had to push off with my hands to get my body into the air, but after surfing bboy.org forums for awhile I saw a few posts teaching hand hops, I need to use my legs and spring them up so that I have the energy to move upwards. Anyway, I'll start with 2 handed handhops first then move on to 1 handed ones.

2. Handstand Spins and Handstand Switches
Doing handstand spins and switches are really different with my shoes on, I can feel something on my legs which I am very conscious of, so I'll have to work on getting used to it before I can actually start doing them really quick. Anyway, I am starting to see the limit of what I can do with just my hands, usually I'll just use my hands to rotate my body, but the most I can do with that is go like 1/4 to 1/2 a round, which is not good enough. I tried using my legs today to rotate and I moved much much easier. So I'll be using my legs more from now on.

Aftermath

Okay, the performance was really shitty.. I think it was even worse than my regular bboying at the esplanade..

Anyways, thru participating in this competition I kinda know what are the problems in my bboying. Let me try to single it down..

1. No connection between floorwork and handstands
2. Very poor floorwork and footwork
3. Very poor stamina

Yup basically I sucked.

My daily routines only focus on training up my power skills, which I think I am going to continue.. I'm really poor at floorwork and footwork anyway, I'll just do my best to improve those along the way.

So my current analysis of myself is:
Power moves: 1/10
Floor Work: 0/10
Foot Work: 0/10
Style: 0/10

Wow, I'm sucking really hard huh?

Hmm well anyway I'm going to focus more on power, which is pretty much what I'm good for anyway, I've elimiated most of the redundant stuff which I wont want to use anymore and replaced them with other stuff. But I think I need to make my training more focused still so...

Revised schedule:
Handstands
- Handstand Leg Grab (Do 3 times just to keep it)
- Eclipse (Do 3 times just to keep it)
- Handhops (Try to achieve about 3 hops)
- Hollowback
- Handstand Spins
- Handstand Switches

Baby Freezes
- Baby Freeze to Airchair
- Baby Freeze to Headstand
- Baby Freeze to Forearm Freeze
- Baby Freeze Walks

Headstands
- Headstand Spins
- Headstand to Handstand

Spins
- Airchair Spins
- Windmills

I've totally removed the shoulder freezes, I think they're too easy and really useless anyway so, no point in practicing them.

New objectives!

Alright =) By now I think almost everyone will think that I have permanently stopped blogging. If you're observant enough to notice this little secret corner in the recesses of my blog then congrats to you, because you're really perceptive.

Anyways, been really training alot for my competitions, after videoing myself down a few times with the help of a very helpful willy haha. I think I have long ways to go.

Alot of the moves which I have been training during my daily sessions are now too easy for me to do and very redundant. Especially because I'll never use those moves ever. Well, I'm really happy to take part in this competition because it helped me to realize alot of things.

So the buzzword for my next months of training is "FOCUS". I've been learning alot of moves but I haven't really been focusing.

My Current Training Itinerary:
Handstands
- Handstand Leg Grab (too easy now)
- Eclipse (too easy)
- Hollowback
- Handstand Spins
- Handstand Switches

Baby Freezes
- Baby Freeze to Airchair
- Baby Freeze to Headstand
- Baby Freeze to Forearm Freeze
- Baby Freeze Walks

Spins
- Airchair Spins
- Windmills

Shoulder Freeze (Shoulde Freeze is really a rubbish freeze)
- Shoulder Freeze Leg Thread
- Shoulder Freeze Spin
- Shoulder Freeze Walk
- Shoulder Freeze to Baby Freeze

A large portion of my daily schedule involved me practicing shoulder freezes, which actually, that I just realized, looks like total bull. So I'm taking the entire portion out of my circular. Also, my handstands, I've been practicing my eclipses and leg grabs, which also took me about 30 mins a day to do, which actually now are really too easy for me. I am going to focus more on other things.

Revised schedule:
Handstands
- Handstand Leg Grab (Do 3 times just to keep it)
- Eclipse (Do 3 times just to keep it)
- Handhops (Try to achieve about 3 hops)
- Hollowback
- Handstand Spins
- Handstand Switches

Baby Freezes
- Baby Freeze to Airchair
- Baby Freeze to Headstand
- Baby Freeze to Forearm Freeze
- Baby Freeze Walks

Headstands
- Headstand Spins
- Headstand to Handstand

Spins
- Airchair Spins
- Windmills

Shoulder Freeze (Shoulde Freeze is really a rubbish freeze)
- Shoulder Freeze Leg Thread (do 3 times just to keep it)

Basically I am going to focus more time on my handstand spins and switches. I am also going to start learning headstand spins (Halos not headspins) and I will learn how to switch from my headstands to handstands.
